ITINERARY IN BRIEF
Day 1 Arrive Windhoek by 09h00, to Sossus Dune Lodge, Sossusvlei This morning your guide will collect you from your respective accommodation establishment or from the Windhoek International Airport (assuming you land before 09h00). You then depart Windhoek in your safari vehicle with your personal guide and drive towards the Sossusvlei area, making your way over the Great Escarpment. You have lunch and visit the Sesriem Canyon in the afternoon, before arriving at the Sossus Dunes Lodge in the later afternoon. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.
Day 2 Sossus Dune Lodge, Sossusvlei After an early wake-up call you depart and head into Sossusvlei itself and you also have the option to walk into the pan at Deadvlei. The early morning provides great colour and shadows of the dunes, and after exploring the area, you settle down for a picnic breakfast under a shady tree. You return to the lodge in time for lunch. The afternoon is again spent at your leisure.
Day 3 & 4 Skeleton Coast Research Camp, Skeleton Coast National Park This morning you fly by charter flight to Puros (via Walvis Bay). Your guide will begin his/her journey north and meet you in Puros upon your return from the Skeleton Coast in a couple of day’s time. At Puros you are met by a representative of the Skeleton Coast Research Camp and then depart in a 4x4 vehicle and head for camp via a 2 hour scenic drive (picnic lunch en route).
Day 5 & 6 Hoanib River Camp, Northern Palmwag Concession This morning, after a leisurely breakfast, you depart on a 2 hour scenic drive back to Puros where you meet with your guide again. Today’s exciting drive takes you completely off the beaten track and into remote areas of the Kunene Region as you follow tracks and ephemeral river courses to reach Hoanib River Camp. You join the Hoanib riverbed to continue east into the true wilderness of the private Palmwag Concession.
Day 7 & 8 Etendeka Mountain Camp, Etendeka Concession This morning you depart camp and make your way along the Hoanib River to Sesfontein, driving through areas well-known for desert-adapted elephant and lions. From Sesfontein we head east into the Etendeka Concession, arriving at the Etendeka Mountain Camp in the late afternoon, having had lunch en route. Here you will stay for two nights at Etendeka Mountain Camp, a remote and homely wilderness camp located within the heart of the Etendeka Concession.
Day 9 & 10 Hobatere Lodge, Hobatere Concession This morning you head further east through the Khowarib Gorge and along the Ombonde riverbed to enter into the Hobatere Concession and continue on to Hobatere Lodge. During your two night stay here you will be able to explore the Concession on guided game and night drives in specially modified open 4x4 game viewing vehicles, starting with an afternoon game drive followed by a night drive after dinner this evening.
Day 11 Okaukuejo Resort, Etosha National Park The route today involves game driving for much of the day as you drive out of the Hobatere Concession and then enter into Western Etosha at Galton Gate. Your guide will have a special permit which allows you access through Western Etosha, an expansive section of the Park that is closed to general tourist traffic for research and rehabilitation of game.
Day 12 Okonjima Bush Camp, AfriCat Foundation After breakfast you make your way to the AfriCat Foundation, game viewing on your way out of the National Park. You arrive at the Okonjima Bush Camp in time for lunch. The afternoon is spent on one of the many activities on offer to explore this well-known project. Close encounters with Africa’s large cats are common.
